My current camera is a Sony R1, which is now quite old but still a good one.

I couldn't help but notice that you asked mr808 about the canon 40d.
I have a question too, since you already have a sony, why not stick with it?
I have recently bought a sony a700, they are discontinued, but really great... they are really very good both in performance and in price and i think you might find some now for a really good price.
Read some reviews and then compare both the cameras

I've heard and seen how good are the Canon reflex cameras, but I just don't know for the Sony ones.

Well sony a700 has the same sensor as nikon d300, and that's better than the 40d, also the nr is great... anyway, you don't have to buy a sony, i was just asking why your dis considering it.
